CAPTAIN JIM by Len Callo 2011
He’s got One slipper - One sock -
A bottle of wine as he stumbles down the dock
Captain Jim don’t sail much anymore.
His captains hat is old and worn -
his over coat is dirty and torn
Soup and crumbs in his long gray beard -
the children say he sure smells weird
Captain Jim
don’t sail much anymore
Oh but when he was a young strappin’ lad -
He would sail the seas and drive the ladies mad
He had his men who loved him so
but something’ strange happened long ago….
Now he’s got one tooth and one eye -
a wooden leg and a bottle of Rye
Captain Jim don’t sail much anymore.
One day it came outta the sea -
a raging beast -1000 pounds at least
The men fought hard to save their lives -
but the beast had teeth as sharp as knives
The ship was destroyed - all were dead -
the Capt. lived but it was on his head
And when no one believed the tale he told -
the captains fate began to unfold
SOLO
So now he looks out beyond the reef -
He thinks about the mighty beast
Late at night he hears it again -
He hears the screams of his dieing men
But no one will ever know the truth -
they’ll never know it was really him
No one
will know the beast was Captain Jim
Captain Jim don’t sail much anymore
